Originally from Indianapolis IN where he studied trumpet and arranging with Jim Edison, piano with Steve Allee, jazz improv with Alan Kiger and composition and arranging with Alan Foust. Wrote for and played in the John Von Ohlen/Steve Allee Big Band. Moved to San Francisco in 1996. Played in and wrote for the Collective West Jazz Orchestra. Wrote and produced their CD Downbeat 9:30. Moved to Colorado Springs in 2008. Started Thin Air Jazz, a 12 pc big band in 2009. Wrote and produced the CD Sneakin' up on Spring in 2013. Thin Air Jazz performed all over Colorado including 3 concerts with trumpeter Bobby Shew. Phil moved to Rensselaer in May of 2014. |
