Saturday 10/2 - Bernie Williams (8pm) Bernie Williams, the five-time All Star centerfielder for the New York Yankees is also a critically acclaimed guitarist/songwriter and he returns to The Egg with his high powered band for an evening of jazz and rock topped off with Latin rhythms. Friday 10/15 - SF Jazz Collective (8pm) Arrangements of music by Horace Silver plus original compositions by the SF Jazz Collective, an all star ensemble which features Miguel Zenón (alto sax, flute), Mark Turner (tenor sax), Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet), Luis Bonilla (trombone), Stefon Harris (vibes, marimba), Edward Simon (piano), Matt Penman (bass) and Eric Harland (drums). Saturday 10/16 - Victor Wooten (8pm) Victor Wooten, one of the most celebrated electric bassists of all time, takes time off from his work with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones to perform a concert of soul, funk and jazz with drummer JD Blair. 2011 Friday 1/21 - Tierney Sutton (8pm) One of the loveliest, most supple voices in jazz, Tierney Sutton, leads her sparkling band in refreshing takes on standards as heard on her string of critically acclaimed, Grammy nominated recordings. Sunday 1/30 - Joe Lovano/John Scofield Quartet (7:30pm) Long-time friends Joe Lovano on saxophone and John Scofield on guitar join forces to demonstrate why they are virtuosos on their respective instruments and two of the most respected jazz artists today. Thursday 2/10 - Jimmy Cobb’s “So What” Band: Kind of Blue (7:30pm) The legendary jazz drummer, the only surviving member from the original Miles Davis recording “Kind of Blue,” leads a contemporary all-star band performing its interpretations of the best-selling jazz recording of all-time plus other jazz classics. The “So What” Band also features Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), Vincent Herring and Javon Jackson (saxophones), Buster Williams (bass), and Larry Willis (piano). Friday 3/25 - Al Di Meloa (8pm) Al Di Meola ranks among the most popular guitar masters of jazz from his associations with Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Stanley Clarke, Al leads the acoustic band World Sinfonia for this performance. |
