Friday 2/26 - A Winter's Eve Swing Soiree with Doc Scanlon's Rhythm Boys feat. Colleen Pratt (8pm)
On Friday, February 26, at 8 pm, WAMCs Performing Arts Studio, The Linda, will present Doc Scanlon's Rhythm Boys with Vocalist Colleen Pratt in an evening of Swinging Jazz, Big Band Rhythms and Jumpin Blues as “The Linda” becomes a dance hall for the evening. Tickets are available online at http://www.wamcarts.org/artsched.html#docscanlon1, by calling 518-465-5233 ext. 4 or at the door on the night of performance.
The evening will feature a kaleidoscope of activities including:
- A Dance Contest with multiple prizes to contestants.
-
A beginner’s dance lesson by well known area dance instructor Jason Fenton.
-
A Swing Dance performance by the Saratoga Savoy Swing Kids who are a group from ages 15-19 that specializes in Lindy Hop and Swing. The kids involved have studied the history of the music and dance at the Saratoga Savoy School of Dance in Saratoga Springs, NY, and are involved in an on-going program that fosters teaching skills, community service, self-confidence and team effort within the students. The Swing Kids have helped raise funds for non-profit organizations by performing at many events, such as the National Museum of Dance and the recent Dance Flurry. For more information, call (518) 587-5132.
- Doc’s newest member, guitarist extraordinaire Graham Tichy, will be featured. Graham made his name as one of the country’s finest Rockabilly guitar-slingers, but is fast mastering the Swing Jazz genre since he joined the band in January of this year. The Rockabilly Hall of Fame has deemed Graham one the "hottest, most capable guitarists" in the field, while Metroland, the newsweekly of NY's Capital, crowned him Best Guitarist in 2003. A cover story in the same publication istated, "Tichy is the kind of player who whips your head around. . .whether you’re a record geek, tracing obscure strains of forgotten geniuses in Tichy’s tones, or just out to have a good time and feeling yourself tugged out onto the dance floor by the classic spirit in his playing."
